My passions!

Hi, everyone!
Today, I'm sharing the passions that guide me through life and what would be the essence of my blogging experience.

1st - My Family

The first of my passions is my family. For me, the family is the reason for achieving the best you can in life.
Maybe, on the future, I'll share the many wonderful (and not so much wonderful) things that we've been through as a family of four living in Portugal with both parents working.

I've always wanted a big family and, right now, I'm loving my four people family.
In our home, there are me, my husband and our two children (a four-year-old and a two-year-old). So, as you would expect, ... life is busy around here.

2nd - Veganism

As I said in the previews post, I started following a vegan way of life about a year ago.

As you go deeper and deeper into a vegan lifestyle, you start beginning to question a lot of things that you do.
In my case, I'm a vegan because I believe that it helps our planet and I want to help preserve it for the future generations.
The animal for food culture is awful when it comes to sustainability, it pollutes so much the planet. And since I've only had access to the mass culture to shopping for their produce, I figured that was best to be vegan than to follow the masses and ignore the problem.

At first, I was just making swaps that feel better for my lifestyle, but now I don't feel the need for consuming meat or fish at all. Just the opposite, I feel very good by not eating them in my body and in my mind.

The only downside I feel right now is that It's very difficult being the only vegan in my family because it gives me and my husband twice the work, especially when it comes to cooking and shopping for food. We are still working on it.

Why are not my kids vegan? Well, I'm not a nutritionist and they've already eaten meat when I've started so it's difficult to change their habits not knowing what would be the consequences to them. So what I'm trying to do at the moment is to teach them, as a model, that there are more things to eat and let them experience it. It's been working very well since their both very picky about food.

Well, since this isn't the point of the post... maybe next time!

3rd - Minimalism/ Low Waste lifestyle (Zero Waste)

I think I've always have been a minimalist so when I came across the concept it made total sense to me. Living with the things that make you happy and that are enough for me was the key to embracing this way of life. Then I found Bea Jonhson blog and I fell in love with the idea of preserving Eart through our actions and I've started searching for everything related to that and as Sustainably Vegan said in on of her videos, we do the best that we can with the circumstances that each of us has.

So, I'm not perfect. I just give my best every day.

I know that ever since I've begun this low waste way of life, I'm trying to be more conscious about my consumption of plastic as well as the one in my family and at my workplace.

4th- Teaching

I'm a teacher, I love my job and I'm always looking for ways to improve it.
I work with teens mostly and I think it's the most amazing experience. You get to help them define their personality believing that they are capable of anything they set up their minds to. Help them accept who they really are despite what others say. Recognize and deal with their qualities and their faults.

It's amazing how you can lead by example and watch the seed you plant grow. You got the luck to be there and share moments that will be with them forever and in your heart to.

I think that's enough for one post. This is a bit of me and what you would be able to read here.

Hope you are loving life like I am.

Kisses,
PG

My (troubled) beginning

Hi, everyone!  I'm so excited to be able to start sharing what I've been up too in the past year! As you can see at the description of the  Loving Life  website, I've begun this journey through healthy, simple, vegan and more sustainable living about a year ago.  It wasn't because I wanted to change my life. It simply happened... and the way that it did was so natural that I believed the right way that I was aligned with my soul. I think I was always conscious about those values in my life. I'm a daughter, a wife, a mother, a teacher... and applying them was the correct thing to do, however, in the past year, every time I saw any articles, videos or something related to those values, my focus was on and I started absorbing so much information that my mind was beginning to conflict with my actions. It started with the health... I don't like coffee  (yes, I'm one of those people)! But ever since I've had my second son, nothing seemed to get m...

School as a learning place - a teacher's thought!

Hoje apetece-me escrever em português, pois sinto que Portugal também precisa de pessoas que saibam escrever português e defendê-lo como ele deve ser defendido. Hoje apetece-me dizer o que me vai na alma em relação à escola.  Hoje apetece-me chorar... Hoje apetece-me rir... Hoje apetece-me gritar... Gritar com os professores, governantes, pais e alunos que não ...

Plastic Free September Challenge

Around here, our years are counted from September to September. I'm a teacher so my break is in August and we've got two kids who have the holiday in August too, so it makes sense that we count that way. This post is really because of how bad I felt during the past few months on my beliefs on sustainable living and the low impact movement. In July, as it was going on the campaign #plasticfreejuly, my life was upside down: I had my in-laws staying over, I was working many hours and with the kids going to the beach with school, the routines were crazy. So it was too many the plastic that found his way to my home. In August, we went on vacation and it was very hard to keep up with the stuff we've bought for our kids (snacks, etc...) because we were staying in a hotel and it wasn't easy to accommodate much stuff in our little fridge. The second part, we went camping and it didn't get any better. But... In September, and getting back to the rou...
